One of our dentists explains dental implants: what it is, how it goes and what to expect.
What it is
An implant replaces a missing tooth from the root up. A small titanium post goes into the jawbone, bonds with it as it heals, and then holds a crown that looks and feels like your own tooth.
It’s the most lasting way to replace a tooth: no slipping like a denture, and the teeth next to it stay untouched.
Because the bone needs time to bond with the implant, you come to Medellín twice. On the first visit we place the screw, the base of the implant. Then you heal at home for 4 months, and on the second visit we place the crown. If you need bone grafting first, we plan it from the start so there are no surprises.
Prices: a single implant is $784 and its crown $595, so $1,379 in total. Full-mouth implants are $11,000 per arch, or $22,000 for the whole mouth. Flights, accommodation, transport and meals are paid separately; we help you book them.

How it goes
Step by step
- 01
Screening at home
A local US dentist takes your X-rays and scans and sends them to our team, so we plan your implant before you fly.
- 02
Visit 1: the implant
The dentist places the implant, the titanium screw that becomes the base of your new tooth and takes the place of the root. Most people go back to normal activities within a day or two.
- 03
4 months of healing at home
You go home while the implant bonds with your jawbone. We check in with you along the way.
- 04
Visit 2, at 4 months: your new tooth
We place the crown on top of the implant: it looks, feels and works like a natural tooth.
