One of our dentists explains root canal: what it is, how it goes and what to expect.
What it is
A root canal saves a tooth that’s infected or badly inflamed inside. Instead of pulling the tooth, the dentist cleans out the infection, seals it and protects it, so you keep your natural tooth.
Most people are surprised by how easy it is: with modern anesthesia it feels much like getting a filling, and it ends the toothache that brought you in.

How it goes
Step by step
- 01
Screening at home
Your X-rays tell us what the tooth needs before you travel.
- 02
Cleaning the tooth
With local anesthesia, the dentist removes the infected tissue inside the tooth and cleans it out.
- 03
Sealing it
The tooth is filled and sealed so the infection can't come back.
- 04
Protecting it
Often a crown goes on top to keep the tooth strong. We plan it in the same trip when we can.
